Why you might choose prefinished hardwood flooring:
At Day Flooring we prefer to install site-finished flooring, and believe that in general, it has distinct advantages over prefinished hardwood flooring, also called factory-finished flooring. But there are some good reasons that people will choose to have prefinished hardwood flooring installed.
Prefinished flooring is cured in the factory. One advantage of this is that you will be able to walk on your new floor right away after installation. Floors finished onsite with a waterborne polyurethane finish will be dry to the touch quickly, but will have varying cure times that will be longer. Until it is fully cured, the floor will be vulnerable to scraping and scratching.
Another advantage is that installation can usually take place in one session. There are not as many steps to complete as there are with site-finishing, which requires installing, sanding, sealing, staining, and finishing.
Factory-finished products are also durable and will often have a lifetime warranty.
There are also many good reasons to choose a site-finished hardwood floor. There are many more options with a site-finished floor. More combinations of color, wood species, and custom looks.
Site-finished wood has no bevels on the edges, and many homeowners prefer the flush look of site-sanded floors. They are smooth with no grooves, and can be finished to have a flat, level and seamless appearance.
Finally, it is easier to make repairs to a site-finished floor. Because prefinished flooring styles can change from year to year, it can be difficult to find matching wood for a prefinished floor if you need to add on or make repairs to a floor in the future.
